Ritchie Valens was born on May 13, 1941 as Richard Steven Valenzuela. He was a pioneer of Spanish-speaking rock and roll with a recording career that lasted only eight months. That’s because his life ended tragically in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, which also took the lives of Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper.
